taysideferret

A late one out

Got a phone call form one of my mates earlier one this afternoon. He was wanting a couple of hours out with the ferrets.

I met him at the same permission that I was at last week at 4:30. We only had enough time to do a couple of warrens before it started to get dark.

Some of the undergrowth was still over grown so we did miss a couple of holes but only 3 bolting this time.

But we did manage 5 plus a small pheasant that had just been hit with the car. (you can just about make it out in the picture )

A good couple of hours out and a few more bunnies for the freezer.

It looks as though a lot of freezers are going to be full of bunnies this year
Does anyone manage to sell any to butchers etc.?

My butcher prefers to buy farmed rabbits! I offered him mine for 80p per head and he reckoned they were too expensive.

80p a head and he reckons thats expensive??? bdooly disgusting, the least that i would consider would be a pound tayside,i bet he's selling them on for a ridiculous mark up..my friend has got it about right, all year round he's banging them out to individuals at 1.50 with skins on and 2.00 with the skins off and in the summer he fills his chest freezer with shot little'uns and when full a zoo nearish here comes and picks em up for feed for the zoo animals..i think he gets about 30-40p for them.

He's selling the for 7:50 per saddle of rabbit!! The game dealer up here pays out more for grey squirrel than he does for rabbits.
