....the occasional holiday was in a caravan....

.....if we were lucky and rainy days in a small tent in weymouth and cornwall spring to mind. Not complaining though as I have fond memories of those rare occasions when we had time together and saving my coppers for the 1p slots in the arcades, especially those games that slide the money onto each other.

Well how times and things have changed. My 3 nephews have jetted off without their parents to America to visit their aunt and uncle for 3 weeks. They are 21, 14 and 12. They even had to change planes too. The eldest has flown 3 times before and the youngest two......never.

They have been saving for 2 years and our family have given them money instead of gifts for birthdays and christmas etc. Apparantly the youngest 2 had the tidiest bedrooms ever for the last 6 months trying to accrue more pocket money!

Now with the technology we have at our disposal I am able to follow their trip on a daily basis as they have set up a word press blog and post their news and pics on a daily basis.

They have visited hollywood, walked down the hall of fame and watched the ducks playing ice hockey.

They are great kids and are having a fabulous time.......and they have done their fair share of camping holidays over the years too.

Good on them glad they are having a great time. In my youth we didn't have a car first one was mine when 16. Holidays I had were with the scouts and going camping with a mate and his parents, great times too.First we did a lot of camping (some with scouts/guide for them as I was scout leader) cheap holidays then we got a campervan so our childen got to see most of this country. But Two have been overseas. Things we would only have dreamed of as you say.

I was 21 before I left these shores, unless you count a trip to the Scilly Isles

I am reminded of the planning involved in a car trip - the maps were consulted before we went anywhere. In later years I recall Dad getting Route Planners from the AA - sent by post

The first time I read it I didn't notice that they were staying with relatives when they got there so thought that it was VERY brave of the parents to let them go

She is just glad of the peace and quiet. She has 5 boys! So maybe the relatives are fictitious.
