... to see the Moscow State Circus

Spent New Year in Worcestershire and we took the grandkids to see the Moscow State Circus in Birmingham.
Very professional... and small grandson announced he was 'in love with the bendy girl' - the blue haired contortionist who did impossible things with her body.
Is it me.. or have circuses (circii?) become far more slick and professional since animal acts have become unacceptable? I recall seeing some quite boring and, frankly, seedy circuses when my son was small,. Moth eaten camels, questionably inebriated clowns  - you get the picture, but recently we've seen quite a few very enjoyable ones with the 'ooh aah factor'. What a shame they're not so well attended - is the whole world at home paying electronic games?

I remember taking the kids to see the Moscow State Circus in Manchester years ago---it was fantastic then. They used to love the Blackpool Tower circus as well when they had the animals ,and that was very slick and professional. We've taken  the grandkids to a rather "tatty" circus if they've been here when it comes to Aber and TBH it seems dire and amateur compared to the small circuses I remember from years ago,but if the kids are young they seem to enjoy it.

I remember the Blackpool Tower Circus, Lottie. For some reason the Tigers stick in my memory - I remember visiting them in their cages?

Yes you could visit the animals! ---they used to excercise the elephants on the beach I think. Just remembered they used to end by flooding the ring at the end with a sort of lit fountain display. It was an annual day trip for us, amusement and rides morning,Tower Circus afternoon, Illuminations at night---lovely for the kids for a day--we went somewhere quieter for a holiday.

Last year I made some trapeze swings, rings and other bits & pieces for 3 circus acts and one burlesque troupe of performers: Foolhardy Circus, No Fit State Circus, an Anglo-Japanese circus troupe, and the No Strings Attached Burlesque troupe. When I delivered the items for the H&S, insurance approval inspections and on-site equipment commissioning I was very surprised at the professionalism and dedication of these people; even in the practice and rehersal sessions.

You meet some interesting folk, Gareth

Lois and I received free complimentary tickets and went to each of the shows; in my opinion the No Strings Attached Burlesque Troupe was the best performance.
