hi guys,
dunno if i'm posting this in the right place, when i was clam diving i allways regarded myself as a hunter : : but then i have seen scallops in prawn creels and i've even heard of one caught on a rod
So after you've caught your scallop place it in your left hand with the hinge away from you and the curved side down.
slide a good sharp knife in the gap with the back of the knife nearest to you and cut through the muscle. try and lever the knife so that you cut as near to the flat side as poss.
then flip up the flat side and discard it. next grab the orange bit of gill between the knife and your thumb and pull it off.
then stick the knife in near the roe and cut round the rest of the muscle.
all the while trying to keep the knife as close to the shell as poss.
good luck and enjoy, paul _________________ please bear in mind i am a taurus so am prone to talking c**p

Great post. I love deep fried Scallop and chips, and raw scallop with Sushi.
Can none divers find scallops in shallow water?
If so, I would like to know what kind of seashore features to look for. We have some great shallow beachs here in Norfolk, being able to harvest Scallops from the shallows would be a bonus. _________________ In Lust, In Like, In Love.

Have you tried razor clams Gareth. I know one or two good spots for harvesting them on a really low tide. _________________ A friendly family based countryside forum.

At the right time of the tide and maybe the year, I've been able to carefully pull hundreds of them out of the sand without salt or digging. _________________ A friendly family based countryside forum.

Chesil Bay near the pub [smilie=pdt_aliboronz_24.gif] is very productive but you need a tank to dive for them. _________________ Still at the Bar, still on me own, still moaning and still a miserable Old Git.

Is that turn right at the bottom of the steep road by the pub as we see loads of holes when we walk that way?
