in Llandudno last night.

A last minute free ticket came my way to see this group who I haven't seen for decades.

A very good night, especially when they started singing about my bell-founding ancestors - how weird was that?

Hey nonny no! (with drums)

I'm almost tempted to dig out my flowery dress and sandals and go to Cropredy in August

We're pretty sure we're descended from the Bagley family of bell founders who operated in Ecton and Chacombe (Northants) in the 1600s and 1700s, althoiugh they cast bells much further afield, including Birmingham, Gloucestershire, Warks and Worcs. A branch of the family got blown to smithereens along with some spectators when casting a cannon in London. (a lucrative, if hazardous, sideline for bell founders during war time)

I nearly jumped out of my seat when the group started singing a song called 'the Festival Bell'  with the lines

Sixteen ninety was the year
A bell was cast in Chacombe
William Bagley was the name
The foundry man who made them.....

Cool eh?

Pop festival for grown ups! I'm tempted - Al Stewart's booked to play. The Year of the Cat - one of my all time favourites - might see you there

get a bit confused by Fairport, im never quite sure if any of the original members are still in it,,,i know they've been in the band for years, but not many appear on the classic Fairport albums. but good fun nevertheless
