We're friends here on OTG and I think it would be nice touch and it would be of interest, if members were to take the time and  recommend a book for us all to read. If folk join in and take part, then the books covered should be as varied and interesting as the members that we have.

As per normal, I'll start the ball rolling and hope that I get a response.

My first offering is Ian Nialls 'The Gamekeeper'. Its a book that I read as a young man and it was largely responsible for setting my interest in hunting, shooting and most  things rural.
It follows a young lad on his journey to the large estate and his enrollment as an apprentice gamekeeper. It looks at the estate in its hay days before the war and then, its sad decline afterwards. I found it to be a captivaing read, which creates and captures a feeling of the atmosphere of the times. I can truly recommend this book, so if you haven't got a copy, then consider getting one. I remember getting on the bus  and going to get a copy from the public library in Burslem forty something years ago. I read it from cover to cover.
If you do manage to read this book, or if you have already done so, then I'd be interested to hear any feedback.

I have just been leant a  copy of In Defence of Dogs by John Bradshaw.  Facinating.  Have cherry picked some bits so far that I am particularly interested in but will read cover to cover.  A book based on observation, evolution and mans intervention of canids. facinating and very helpful in understanding your canine friend and where they are coming from.

I can't contribute to this subject - it's the best seller of the year (trilogy) and I just had to read it to see what it was all about
