I found 2 perfect plaits in my mare's mane this morning. One each side (her mane falls both sides). Common sense is telling me it's the wind or the way she's wriggled in the night in the field. But it's not been windy.  If someone was marking her for stealing, why alert me by leaving the evidence? If it was bored kids I doubt she'd have stood still for long enough. I'd rather not have strangers near the horse at the moment anyway as there is strangles round here, so I think I'll put an electric fence barrier around the gates.
Hmmmmmmm. what do you think?

Good idea. I'd fret about that enough to be watchful if you're sure it wasn't family.
How about one of those wee cameras that are meant to spot wildlife at night too ? they can be had very cheaply indeed.

I did hear it was a system that thieves used to point out which horses are worth stealing. I would be extra vigilant and let the police know.

Cant hurt to be over cautious.

I've alerted the neighbours Claire - 2 of whom overlook her field. Beats me why someone would want to steal horses though when you can't give them away round here. I'm pretty sure they're just wind tangles but you can't be too careful.

I can never understand why anyone would want to steal a horse either but not everyone thinks like me.

We had a couple of blokes in the field a few years ago when my eldest daughter got home from school. Scarey to think how easily they had got in and what they had planned. Thankfully all horses (and daughter) were non the worse for it.

Hope your horses are all ok

Claire
