Few of us on here used to breed Marans and Welsummers for dark brown Eggs.

Anyone still got them?
I still have Cuckoo Marans, here are a few eggs

Looking for a cockerel to go with them
Must be from a dark egg but also bred big for Utility not just eggs or show.

Will probably just buy in some eggs and be ready to go next season.
What you think?

I have always found the dark eggs difficult to hatch. Hence my birds are on the old side generally with only odd young ones.

Those look brilliant Dave. Kevin Bowkett is your man for dark brown egg layers.

I may have found some hatching eggs from a guy in Lancashire.
Apparently he breeds for size as well as egg colour and also swops eggs regularly with Kevin Bowkett.

So I could be onto a winner

But I did tell Mrs C that I'd finished for the season

I have put the 7 darkest eggs in my small incy,
I will mark these chicks and keep a cockerel or 2 from them so I know they from the darkest possible eggs

If you know what I mean.
