This morning, I've found a Christmas present that the kids can get me for Christmas. They haven't got a choice in the matter, I'm going to order it myself just as soon as they open this morning.
I like the idea behind one, as in using heat that you're already using to warm the house. Have a look at this link, you'll see what I mean.

I'm going to go for the larger version. Being able to cook both jacket potatoes and freshly baked bread is doubly appealing.

I've already got my tripod to go out on the fires we have in the garden, plus  a Dutch oven and a skillet to go with it ! I'm beginning to wonder if I'm teetering on the brink of becoming a Doomsday prepper.

If you lived nearer there's a set of cast iron pots in my shed that would do brilliantly on top of that cooker. I have used them to bake potatoes, bread, etc., on top of the stove inside a bell tent and a kata. Set of three was under thirty quid if I recall correctly. Spuds are brilliant done this way, even left to cool down and re-heated the next day.

Toddy, its trendy to have cast iron these days and your three pots would cost a bomb now.

I can't be bothered with them at home, they're too damned heavy. I put the lecreuset ones up the loft and these plain ones outside.
I have two of the cast iron frying pans and a couple of girdles (bakestones!) too.
The old fashioned hoop handled girdles are too big for my modern electric cooker so I bought one of the flat ones with the handle moulded in, like this

and it's brilliant
It kind of lives on top of the cooker. Pancakes, tattie scones, oatcakes, tortillas, naan bread, treacle scones, girdles scones…..it's awfully useful and it wasn't expensive.

Toddy we have one of those plus square one with ribs n high sides, 3 fry pans set of 3 sauce pans and 3 ones with wire handles n lids. We use all on/in coal range. Also got pie, waffle maker and toasty sandwich maker 9all made of ally.)

If I had a stove such as Bodger has then yes, I'd use my cast iron more. It's free cooking, y'know ? Everything from soup to stew, stovies to baked potatoes, bread and cakes.
In a very modern kitchen the cast iron is not so useful. I do find it too heavy to use most of the time. Brilliant for long slow cooking though.

My jacket potato / bread maker arrived a couple of days ago and we tried it out last night with some chestnuts and it cooked them to perfection.
On the downside, I've made some bread dough this afternoon and although the bread the yeast I used was well in date, the dough has refused to rise.  
I think some new bread yeast is called for, or I've got a lot of champagne yeast here that I use in my cider making, do you think would it be alright to use some of that ?
